This powerful course was created by Dr. Clayton Barksdale, a nationally recognized educator, mental health advocate, and leading voice on the emotional and academic impact of fatherlessness.

For over two decades, I’ve dedicated my life’s work to helping children and families heal from the trauma of paternal absence. As a behavioral coach, school leader, and educational consultant, I’ve seen firsthand how fatherlessness can shape a child’s identity, behavior, and academic success. My journey has taken me into classrooms, counseling centers, stages, and communities—each time with one mission: to help children move from brokenness to strength.

I’ve written multiple books on the subject of fatherlessness, created stage plays like Mom, Where’s Daddy? and Second Chance that have toured schools and mental health conferences, and delivered keynote speeches to educators, legislators, and social workers on how to support students experiencing parental rejection and abandonment. My research, curriculum development and SEL games have been implemented in schools across the country, with real results: improved behavior, reduced disciplinary referrals, and stronger emotional resilience in fatherless youth.

Stones to Statues is the culmination of that work—a 30-lesson online course designed specifically to walk children through the emotional stages of grief associated with fatherlessness. Each unit helps students recognize and manage their emotions, rebuild self-worth, and develop healthy coping skills. Grounded in Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and aligned with CASEL competencies, the course empowers children to transform pain into purpose.

Whether your child is struggling with anger, confusion, sadness, or denial, this course provides a safe, guided path toward healing and growth. I created Stones to Statues because no child should ever feel alone in their journey—and because I believe every child has the power to rise.

Welcome to the beginning of healing.
